Redirects
Redirects from an old counselling website
Directories, emails and bookmarks still hit the old counselling URLs. Therapist Website Studio inventories every public path, pairs each survivor with a page on the new build, and publishes permanent redirects aligned with Google’s site-move guidance. We do not dump every old post onto the home page, and we do not promise unchanged rankings.
Example bespoke sites
Linden Walk is a designed example in Edinburgh. It is not an exported Wix or Squarespace site or a client redirect map.

Which are you asking about?
The form asks for counselling or psychotherapy, so the reply matches the work. It does not ask you to explain a history.

This block is on the page because old counselling URLs outlive new menus. The sample Service names the written old-to-new map.

}The website we deliver
The URL inventory we write before DNS
We list what is still public: home, about, each service, fees, contact, and posts that directories or old newsletters already link to. A one-page scrolling site often has only `/` plus in-page anchors. Anchors are not separate URLs, so we do not invent a redirect row for every heading. That map is part of the published migration and redesign, not a worksheet you complete alone.
The full worksheet lives on therapy website SEO migration checklist. Domain or hostname changes add moving a therapist website to a new domain.
| On the map | Left off |
|---|---|
| Every public path we can still fetch | A menu guess from memory |
| Permanent 301 to the replacing page | A soft ‘moved’ page that stays indexable |
| Retired posts that no longer describe your offer | Every draft copied forward |
| Host redirect tools per current docs | A frozen screenshot of someone else’s UI |
One-page sites and old posts we keep or retire
When a single scroll becomes several real pages, we usually point old `/` at the new home and give each new service its own slug. A post that still describes a service you offer can land on that service page or a dedicated article. We do not send the whole archive to `/` by default.
Posts about a fee you no longer charge or a modality you no longer offer are retired on purpose, rather than redirected into copy that would mislead a visitor or a crawler.
Which host serves the 301s
Wix and Squarespace document their own redirect screens—Wix 301 redirects and Squarespace URL mappings. We follow the live article, not a remembered button label.
If both old and new hosts can serve redirects during overlap, we choose the host that will still be online after DNS points at the new site and write that on the map.
Platform-specific moves: moving from Wix, moving from Squarespace.
Site-move checks we run after cutover
Google’s site-move guidance describes a URL map and permanent redirects when addresses change. Rankings can fluctuate while Google recrawls—we do not treat a 301 as a rank guarantee or as lost equity to fear-monger about.
New pages carry crawlable fee, status and enquiry copy plus structured data that matches the paragraphs. After cutover, Search Console shows coverage errors—not a promise that positions stay still.
Broader context: what happens to SEO when you redesign.
Redirects inside the migration build
The inventory and 301 map are part of website migration for therapists and website redesign for therapists at published prices—not a paid audit generator.
Standard Managed is £149 setup and £49 a month for 12 months, then Website Care at £39. Growth Managed is £249 and £69 a month, then £49, when each real service needs its own page. Prices include VAT. A short look at current URLs starts with the free website review.
We do not promise enquiries, rankings or AI mentions as part of redirect work.

- What if the old site was one long page?
- We map `/` to the new home. In-page anchors are not treated as extra URLs.
- Should every old blog post redirect to home?
- No. We give useful posts a deliberate target and retire obsolete ones.
- Can the old builder stay online?
- Only while it still serves the redirects and you control that host.
