Moving a therapy website from Wix

Copy the page text into the brief, and download images from the media manager if you have the rights. Blog posts may be exportable depending on the Wix product you use; the page design is not. Write down every public URL, including service pages that directories already link to. ADI sites and Editor sites can produce different URL patterns, so read the live addresses rather than guessing.

A Wix site can be a perfectly good public site. Move when the structure or the ownership of the build needs to change, not because a builder is incapable of being indexed.

Redirects and the domain

Wix redirects apply on Wix. They do not travel with the domain. The new host has to answer the old paths.

• Create 301 redirects in Wix for any URL you change while Wix is still serving the domain
• Rebuild those same redirects on the new site before DNS moves
• If the domain was bought at Wix, start a transfer out while the site is still up
• If the domain is elsewhere, update the records only after mail records are copied
• Test the contact form on the new host before the domain points at it
