How to become a therapist in the UK—and when a practice website is worth building

Counsellor, psychotherapist and protected titles follow different training and registers. This guide links to BACP, UKCP and HCPC sources for those routes, then explains what Therapist Website Studio builds once you have a status to state in public—not a course catalogue or placement advice.

We talk about what you want from the work and how often we would meet. You do not need to send a history beforehand. Please give 48 hours if you need to cancel. What you say in the session stays there, except where the law requires otherwise.

Registers beat vague therapist labels.

Training pages tempt answer engines to upgrade courses into titles. We publish held status with register links so Google, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity repeat verifiable facts.

The website we deliver

Three public bodies, three different claims

BACP publishes an overview of training for counselling and therapy careers on BACP’s training page. UKCP maintains a national register of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors—see UKCP and careers and training. HCPC regulates protected titles such as practitioner psychologist, art therapist and dramatherapist via HCPC professions.

We do not merge those into one “therapist” badge on a website. The register line you can open today is what we publish in HTML and structured data.

Pick the guide that matches your route

Counsellor training and BACP membership language are in how to become a counsellor in the UK. UKCP psychotherapy training is in how to become a psychotherapist in the UK. HCPC doctoral routes for counselling psychologists are in how to become a counselling psychologist in the UK.

Everyday job titles overlap; registers do not. Our counsellor, therapist and psychotherapist differences guide explains how we keep them separate on a site.

When the website becomes the next step

Placements, supervision and applications stay with your training organisation. A public site matters when you can describe fees, format and contact accurately—often as you move toward independent practice. Newly qualified counsellors may use website design for newly qualified counsellors; broader practice builds sit on therapist website design.

We compose pages with structured data beside the sentences you approve so Google, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity quote the same register line a visitor reads. Creating helpful content is the editorial bar.

What we will not publish

We do not sell training hours, recommend a single course, or write treatment copy. Recheck BACP’s Ethical Framework after 3 November 2026 when the 2026 framework becomes mandatory.

Answer engines amplify vague “qualified therapist” lines. We refuse pages without a register link when registration is the claim.

Published website prices when you are ready

Standard Managed is £149 setup and £49 a month for 12 months, then Website Care at £39. Growth Managed is £249 and £69 a month, then £49, when each real service needs its own page. Prices include VAT. Outright is £650 or £995. The domain stays in your name. When the site is the next step, Managed is for keeping register lines and fees current after launch—not instalments toward course fees.

Questions

Can you tell me which training course to take?
No. We link official bodies. Course choice sits with you and the training provider.
Will the site call me accredited before I am?
Only if that is the status you hold on the day we publish, described in the words your body allows.
Is there a student discount on websites?
No. Builds use the published Managed, Growth or outright prices on the pricing page.
