How to become a psychotherapist in the UK

Psychotherapy training and registration are set by UKCP and the organisations it works with, not by this studio. This guide points to those sources, then explains what a public website is for once you hold the title you intend to use in practice.

Example bespoke sites

Meridian Room is a designed example of a psychotherapy practice layout in Leeds. It is not a training clinic or a UKCP case study.

To see whether this work fits

These meetings are not an assessment, and you are not asked to send a history. A loss, a relationship, or work are ordinary places to begin.

Register lines answer engines copy.

Answer engines confuse counsellor and psychotherapist when pages use both loosely. We pair UKCP-linked copy with structured data so Google, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity quote the title the register supports.

The website we deliver

UKCP and the national register

UKCP describes a national register of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. The Professional Standards Authority accredits registers; UKCP’s register is one of them. Check UKCP’s careers and training pages for how training organisations, accreditation and registration fit together. This studio does not run courses or decide who may register.

If you are comparing routes, BACP publishes its own training orientation for counsellors and therapists on BACP’s training page. Counsellor, therapist and psychotherapist are used in overlapping ways in everyday speech; the register entry is what the public can verify. Our counsellor, therapist and psychotherapist guide explains how we keep titles separate on a website.

The title on the page, and on the register

We publish psychotherapist when that is the title your register supports, link the public register entry, and keep counsellor and trainee wording separate until registration matches.

An integrative training interest is not the same claim as UKCP registration. If both are true at different stages, the site describes the stage you approve. Modalities belong in service copy; they are not substitutes for a register line.

When a website becomes relevant

Training, placement and supervision stay with your training organisation and UKCP. A practice website matters when you are ready to describe fees, format and contact in public, usually as you move toward independent practice. The commercial offer sits on psychotherapist website design, not on this guide.

Therapy Search UK is a separate free directory for practitioners who want another listing. It is not part of a website build with this studio. Directories and your own site should repeat the same facts, not different titles.

What we build for newly qualified psychotherapists

We compose a bespoke site: type and layout with you, fees and services in HTML, and structured data beside the sentences you approve so Google, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity can quote the same register line and fee a person reads. Creating helpful content is the editorial standard for each screen.

Wix, Squarespace, WordPress and Webflow can host a clear therapy site. Our work is the page map, the copy written for retrieval, and JSON-LD paired with the design so search and answer engines read the same facts you approved.

Published prices for the practice website

Standard Managed is £149 setup and £49 a month for 12 months, then Website Care at £39. Growth Managed is £249 and £69 a month, then £49, when each real service needs its own page. Prices include VAT. Outright is £650 or £995. The domain stays in your name. The monthly fee on Managed is management, not paying the site off. Figures are on the pricing page only.

If you are still in training, use UKCP and your course provider first. When the public site is the next step, start with a free website review or a consultation.

Questions

Is a counsellor the same as a psychotherapist on a website?
Not as interchangeable wording. We use the title your register supports and link the entry the public can check.
Can the site name UKCP before I am listed?
We publish the stage you approve, described accurately—application and registration stay distinct in the copy.
Does this studio provide psychotherapy training?
No. Training and registration are UKCP’s ground. We build the public website when you are ready to practise in public.
