Counselling psychology

How to become a counselling psychologist in the UK

Counselling psychologist is a protected title regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. Training and registration are set by HCPC, universities and the British Psychological Society, not by this studio. This guide links to those sources, then describes the practice website once you hold the title.

Protected title stays exact.

Counselling psychologist collapses into generic psychologist language when HTML is vague. We publish the HCPC title with a register link so Google, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity cannot quietly broaden it.

This block is on the page because the protected title is easy to misquote. The sample Service keeps counselling psychologist beside an HCPC-backed credential.

The website we deliver

Protected title and HCPC registration

HCPC lists the professions it regulates, including practitioner psychologists. Counselling psychologist is one of the protected titles within that group. Read HCPC’s professions page for the official list and what statutory registration means. Registration sits with HCPC; the site mirrors the title your register entry supports.

Practitioner psychologist is the regulatory category; counselling psychologist is the specific protected title when that is what you are registered for. Art therapist and dramatherapist are separate protected titles on the same list. A counselling diploma does not confer any of them.

Training bodies to read first

Doctoral training in counselling psychology is delivered by universities and accredited routes described by the British Psychological Society and HCPC. Entry requirements, course structure and registration steps belong on those pages, not in a studio blog summary.

If you are comparing wider psychology careers, BPS and HCPC publish the distinctions between practitioner psychologist titles. For counsellor-led routes, see how to become a counsellor in the UK and title differences.

The public website after registration

We publish counselling psychologist only when HCPC registration for that title is held, with a link to the register entry. Assessment, therapy and reporting stay on separate pages when they are separate offers. The commercial brief is on psychologist website design.

There is no trainee version of the protected title on the site. If you are in training, we describe that stage in the words you approve without borrowing the registered title early.

What we build for newly qualified counselling psychologists

The build is bespoke HTML with structured data so answer engines quote the HCPC title and fee you approved, not a broader psychologist label. Creating helpful content is the test for each service screen.

Therapy Search UK is a separate free directory. Your own site and any directory profile should agree on title and register entry. The build delivers crawlable credentials, fees and services in HTML and structured data.

Published prices for the practice website

Standard Managed is £149 setup and £49 a month for 12 months, then Website Care at £39. Growth Managed is £249 and £69 a month, then £49, when each real service needs its own page. Prices include VAT. Outright is £650 or £995. The domain stays in your name. The monthly fee on Managed is management, not paying the site off. There is no trainee tariff; figures are on the pricing page only.

When registration and scope are clear, a free website review can look at an existing public site before a rebuild.
