How to start a private therapy practice in the UK
What should be true before you invite the public to write?
Your professional body is the source for training, insurance and scope. After that, the public needs a stable description: who you see, where or online, the fee, and a short way to make contact. A website is that description. It is not a substitute for supervision or HMRC advice.
Before the website
Confirm with your membership body what you may offer and how you describe your status. BACP’s private practice material and your supervisor are the right places for clinical readiness. Tax registration depends on your circumstances; use GOV.UK rather than a blog for the threshold.
What the public page has to hold
When those facts are stable, that is the brief for a Practice Website at £650, or Practice Growth at £995 if each service needs its own page. Prices include VAT. The domain stays in your name. Until the facts are stable, a listing is often enough. Book a consultation only when you are ready for the public site to be planned.
- The work you want enquiries for, not every issue you could ever see.
- In-person place only where you actually see people, or a clear online scope.
- Fee, session length, and what the first contact is for.
- A form or email that asks people not to send clinical detail.
