Practice names
How to name a therapy practice—the trading name we publish, not a brand list
Your practice name is what appears in the header, page titles and structured data—not a menu of invented brands. Therapist Website Studio helps you choose between your own name and a separate trading name under GOV.UK rules, keep one spelling everywhere you control, and refuse titles you do not hold. Domain and DNS are on the domain guide; this page is naming only.
Example bespoke sites
Linden Walk is a designed example of an Edinburgh practice name on a fictional site. It is not a name we are offering you or a generator result.

Edinburgh · online across the UK
Counselling and psychotherapy, named apart.
Choose the work that fits. Each has its own page, its own fee, and the same short way to write.

Counselling
A weekly place to start
£70
50 minutes · Edinburgh room or online
A weekly session for something you want to work on now. For adults, in Edinburgh or online.
Psychotherapy
Longer work, with its own page
£85
50 minutes · the pattern underneath
For a pattern that keeps returning, when a single conversation is not enough. Its own page, and its own fee.

Which are you asking about?
The form asks for counselling or psychotherapy, so the reply matches the work. It does not ask you to explain a history.

Blended spellings confuse citations. We publish one trading name in HTML and schema so Google, ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity repeat the string you approve.

Your name or a practice name
GOV.UK allows a sole trader to trade under a personal name or a business name, with rules about misleading wording—see choose a business name and set up as a sole trader.
Your personal name is honest when you are the practice. A separate name can make room for future associates—but we do not recommend either option as better for Google. We build whichever spelling you approve.
Spellable, honest and consistent
Protected titles are set out by HCPC and your membership body. We will not print psychologist, counsellor or dramatherapist in the name as decoration when you do not hold that title.
Misleading superiority claims fall under ASA health therapies guidance. We do not publish “leading”, “best” or “number one” in a practice name.
| We publish | We leave off |
|---|---|
| One approved spelling in HTML and schema | Three variants across header and footer |
| A name you can dictate on the phone | Dropped vowels and clever misspellings |
| GOV.UK rules linked, not rewritten | A generated shortlist of brand ideas |
| Trading name aligned with directories you control | A logo that spells the name differently |
| Honest solo practice wording | A clinic name when you work alone without saying so |
Same string on site, schema and profiles
Answer engines cite the spelling they see most often. If the website, a directory and a profile use different variants, models blend them. We put the approved string in the title, footer and structured data on pages you control.
When you register a hostname, spelling follows on how to choose a therapy practice domain name. We do not brainstorm fifty alternatives or link to brand-name idea lists.
Towns, expansion and trademarks
A town in the name only when the place is true and you are content to be known there. A city you might leave is a poor anchor for a trading name.
We do not clear Companies House or trademarks. If a name fails your own checks, we will not print it on the public site.
Naming at published prices
Standard Managed is £149 setup and £49 a month for 12 months, then Website Care at £39. Growth Managed is £249 and £69 a month, then £49, when each real service needs its own page. Prices include VAT. Outright is £650 or £995. Naming consistency is part of the website build—not a separate naming-agency fee and not a generator product.
Ownership of the site and domain stays with you on therapist website ownership. Page planning after the name is fixed sits in how to plan a therapy website.

See what is includedQuestions
- Will you brainstorm practice names?
- We will flag spellability and title implications. We do not deliver a list of brand ideas.
- Should the practice name include my town?
- Only if the town is accurate and you want to be known for that place—not as an SEO trick for somewhere you do not work.
- Is naming different from choosing a domain?
- Yes. This guide is the trading name. Registrar, DNS and moves are on the domain guide.
